The Historical Persperctive of Nabitalo Catholic Parish
Nabitalo Catholic Parish is a situated along the Gayaza-Zirobwe Road in Kiwenda, within the Nansana Municipality of Wakiso District. This is under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala and one of the youngest parishes but rapidly grown into a vibrant and dynamic spiritual center, fostering faith, unity, and active community engagement.
This traces its roots back to 1927 when it was initially a sub-parish under Gayaza Parish. Over time, it grew in significance and was elevated to a zone level, encompassing eight sub-parishes: Nabitalo, Namulonge, Nabinene, Balita, Busukuma, Bulesa, Bwetamiza, and Nabijano. During this transformative period, Mrs. Nansubuga Immaculate, a devoted parish councilor by then, played a crucial role in guiding and leading the parishioners with unwavering commitment.
In 2007, a new milestone was achieved when it was officially elevated to a parish level and renamed Our Lady of Sorrows – Nabitalo Catholic Church. At that time, Rev. Fr. Isidore Mbaleeba who was residing at Gayaza Parish, during the construction of the church was entrusted to provide leadership and overseing all parish developments.

Officially on September 17, 2007, Rev. Fr. C. Nsubuga was appointed as the first parish priest, supported by Deacon Kiwanuka Aloysius (Musukulumu). Under their guidance, the parish community flourished. In 2013, the mantle of leadership was passed to Rev. Fr. Francis Ssemuddu, who served with dedication until 2022. His tenure laid a strong foundation for spiritual growth and administrative stability. Following his service, Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Mpaanga took over as the third parish priest and continues to lead the parish community today.
The journey of Nabitalo Catholic Parish is a testament to faith, resilience, and unwavering devotion. Its growth has been made possible by the tireless efforts of clergy, parishioners, and leaders who have dedicated themselves to its development. Their selfless contributions have transformed the parish into a thriving spiritual center, enriching the lives of those who come to worship and seek guidance.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all individuals who have played a role in shaping Nabitalo Catholic Parish into its current stature.
May its legacy continue to inspire generations to come.
