Busukuma Sub-Parish
History of Busukuma Sub-Parish
OThe roots of Busukuma Sub-Parish trace back to the early 1900s, with its establishment believed to have occurred not later than 1907. It was pioneered by Peter Cadet, a missionary who walked from Nandere to Busukuma with the aim of establishing a Catholic mission station.
Peter Cadet was accompanied by Catechist Alexandre, and together they explored possibilities for building a full-fledged mission with a church, priests’ residence, sisters’ convent, schools, and other key parish institutions. However, due to the limited size of land available at that time, the vision could not be fully realized in Busukuma.
Recognizing these challenges, Peter Cadet moved on to Gayaza, where he found sufficient land and established what later became Gayaza Parish in 1907.
Despite this, Busukuma remained significant as a mission station. The land for the sub-parish—approximately 5 acres—was generously donated by the late Zakayo Wamala. The sub-parish was officially started with ten (10) villages, namely:s spiritual journey and development.
