Nabitalo Catholic Parish – Choir

The Choir has enjoyed steady growth in its membership, which for quite some time now has grown to about 60 active members. The membership is diverse with men and women from different walks of life who have offered their service and voices to God and the Church on purely voluntary basis. One of the remarkable points to note is that some of the members who joined in the 1970’s and 80’s are still actively serving. There are also a good number of those who joined in the 90’s and in the early 2000’s.
As of December 2023, the longest serving members of the choir include Mrs. Betty Muliisa who joined in 1972, Mrs. Mildred Warugaba Ssentoogo and Mr. John Chrysostom Kigongo (JC) who both joined in 1975. Such members are a good example to the younger members and their continued service has helped to cement further the firm foundation started in 1936.
The major objective of the Choir is “to sing songs of praise in the Church and to lead the congregation into worship’’. It is gratifying to note that since its inception, the choir has been in attendance during the 10 O’clock Mass at Christ the King Church, every Sunday up to the present day.
The choir was originally known as “Missionary Choir”. It was started in 1978 by Rev. Sr. Thereza Caroline of Mary Mother of the Church Congregation, Lira. It began as a small choir of about 10 (ten) members with Mr. Phillip Ochama as its Music Director. In 1982 the number of the choir members rose to 30 with Sr. Thereza as the Chairperson.
In 1990 the name of the Choir changed to St. Joseph Missionary Choir under the leadership of Mr. Aloysius Bbaale as the Chairman.
In 1992 under the leadership of Mr. Jawaconga George, the choir changed its name to St. Joseph and it has been known by that name ever since.
The choir is currently under the leadership of Mr. Alicabiaku Silvano with Mr Kivumbi Edward as the music Director.
